Carnegie hall is to some the biggest musical stage of them all!  Having played host to the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen and more, it is without a doubt a legendary venue reserved for some of the greatest acts and entertainers in the world.  So it’s no small matter that Lincoln High School senior Gavin Sturm was among the performers at Carnegie Hall last Saturday night!

Gavin played in the 2022 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall.  The musicians involved are among the best high school musical artists… in the WORLD!  Although he had already played with the state High School Honors bands in our local region, there is no doubt the lights were brighter and the stage more grand in the heart of New York City!

Gavin and his euphonium or tenor trombone will be making appearances in Brookings, Minneapolis, and Iowa City this month as well, as a part of the South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa High School Honors bands… quite a long way from his first days of 5th grade band right here in Sioux Falls!

It is such an inspiration to see a young man embracing his gifts and riding his success beyond his limits!  Gavin Sturm is a prime example of the support and development available to launch your dreams from our local community here in Sioux Falls.  From the first elementary school music lesson, to private instruction, to the Lincoln High School band – his instruction and growth have come almost exclusively from within our city limits.  Sioux Falls has what it takes and hopefully Gavin Sturm is just the first of many more examples to come of that excellence!
