February 19th, 1900 – On This Day in Sioux Falls History, the first car comes to town!  Local citizen Henry C. Fenn receives delivery by train of the Winton two passenger automobile he had purchased months previous.  The vehicle boasts an astounding 1 HORSE POWER!

A crowd gathered around the Burlington Railroad platform to watch the car company representative maneuver the vehicle off the train and onto Sioux Falls streets!

The first route ever driven in Sioux Falls by a car south on Main Ave, West on 10th St. and off into the country, coming back to town a few minutes later.

More vehicles would start popping up shortly after, and before long, seeing an automobile motoring down the street wasn’t even worth a second glance!
