January 8th, 2009 – On This Day in Sioux Falls History, the art piece “In Varietate Concordia” was first installed in Sioux Falls near Falls Park at 2nd St. and Phillips Ave. Also used as the motto for the European Union, “In Varietate Concordia” means “United In Our Diversity” in English.

Artist Matthew Kargol’s vision for the piece was to help citizens of Sioux Falls, as well as visitors, to recognize our potential to achieve greatness through our ability to embrace our unique differences.
In August 2019 the piece was moved south down Phillips Ave. to the Orpheum Theatre Courtyard.
