March 3rd, 2016 – On This Day in Sioux Falls History, local chef and restaurant owner Sanaa Abourezk stars on the hit food network series, “Beat Bobby Flay.”  In the show two chefs from across the nation compete head to head in a cooking challenge, the winner receives the chance to take on World Reknown Culinary All-Star Bobby Flay!

Sanaa, owner of Sanaa’s Gourmet Mediterranean in the 8th and Railroad plaza, quickly dispatched of Philadelphia’s Matt Levin with a delicious looking sirloin steak and fennel stew.  But that victory won her the right to face an even more worthy advisory, the American Iron Chef himself Bobby Flay!

In the second round of the show the contestant chooses what they and Bobby Flay have to cook and present to the judges (really the contestants only advantage in the show)!  Sanaa chose the popular Middle Eastern dish… Moussaka!

While Sanaa prepared the eggplant dish beautifully garnishing it with tomatoes, onions, and a signature sauce, Bobby offered tough competition with his take on the specialty as well!  In the end the judges praised the wonderful texture and flavor of Sanaa’s dish but ultimately named Bobby Flay the winner!

Of course you can judge for yourself the merits of Sanaa’s Moussaka by taking a short drive to 8th and Railroad and ordering it or something equally delectable from the menu at Sanaa’s Gourmet Mediterranean!
